At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, American semiconductor leader Qualcomm Incorporated unveiled a landmark commitment to bolster India’s artificial intelligence (AI) startup ecosystem with a Strategic AI Venture Fund of up to USD 150 million.
“India has a unique advantage in this next chapter. A large, connected population, a strong developer ecosystem, and deep engineering talent position the country to help define how AI serves real needs across agriculture, healthcare, smart cities, and education. These are practical avenues to broaden participation in the AI economy,” said Cristiano Amon, President and CEO, Qualcomm Incorporated.
According to the announcement, the fund, to be carried by Qualcomm Ventures, the company’s global investment arm, will support startups at all growth stages.
In his keynote at the summit, Amon highlighted that AI is entering a transformative phase in which “intelligence is built directly into devices and systems people depend on,” reshaping entire industries and everyday experiences. He said that India’s dynamic innovation landscape and robust talent pool position the country to play a critical role in this evolution.
Qualcomm’s commitment also reflects nearly two decades of engagement with India’s tech ecosystem, with investments in over 40 Indian startups supported across sectors such as connectivity, AI, robotics, and fintech, including prominent names like MapMyIndia, ideaForge, Shadowfax, Cavli Wireless, SpotDraft, and ToneTag.
The firm has approximately USD 2 billion in assets under management, with around 360 portfolio companies and generating multiple exits over its 25-plus years of operation.
