Veteran Actor Nana Patekar Passes Away at 75

Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away today, after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He was 75. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the news to local media.
Patekar was found unconscious at his home in the early hours of the morning and rushed to Manipal Hospital. Dr. Shekhar Salkar of the hospital said doctors performed continuous CPR but could not revive him, and he was declared dead at around 5:20 am. Patekar’s family has left for Goa.
Born Vishwanath Patekar, he worked across Hindi and Marathi cinema for nearly five decades. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor for Krantiveer (1994), along with the Filmfare and Screen awards in the same category, and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Agni Sakshi (1996). Among his best-known films are Parinda, Prahaar: The Final Attack, Angaar, Wajood, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan and Natsamrat. He also became a popular comic presence through the Welcome and Housefull franchises, most recently appearing in Housefull 5 (2025) and Vanvaas (2024).
Tributes poured in from across the film industry. Akshay Kumar, who shared the screen with Patekar in Welcome and Housefull 5, wrote on X that Patekar was one of those rare performers “who never needed to do too much to make you sit up and watch.”
