Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, has announced the Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray, a lifelong home for orphaned children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities. She performed the Bhumi Pujan and laid the foundation stone at Karjat, near Mumbai. The not-for-profit township will cover about 100 acres and be built in phases, subject to approvals.
“We envision a community where compassionate care and medical support come together with the warmth of family life, where people live surrounded by nature, with opportunities to learn, work, make friends, and experience the joy of festivals and celebrations,” said Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson, Reliance Foundation.
It is designed to be home to more than 5,000 residents and to support a community of about 15,000, including caregivers, medical staff and their families. Residents will live in small family-style homes with house parents, each with an individualised care plan covering healthcare, education, skills, employment and friendships, coordinated by a key worker and reviewed at least every six months. Eight residential villages will be named after sacred Indian rivers.
Facilities will include a specialised hospital, rehabilitation centres, inclusive schools, sports facilities, a temple, workshops such as a bakery and craft studios, family respite homes, mobile medical clinics, a national training academy for disability-care professionals and a hospice wing. About 1,000 people from surrounding villages are expected to access therapy, education and employment.
It is aimed at people with developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy and complex medical conditions who often lack specialist care outside major cities.
