DeepSeek has released a prototype of a more autonomous coding agent, called Super-Agent, as it seeks to challenge Anthropic’s Claude Code. The open-source tool can proactively monitor developer group chats for feedback on coding problems and suggest solutions without being summoned, DeepSeek’s Harness team said in a WeChat post on Saturday.

DeepSeek created the Harness team earlier this year to build agents that can take on coding services offered by leading US labs, including Anthropic. A harness is the layer of software that helps AI systems streamline coding and other work. The release puts DeepSeek in closer competition with Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex, as AI companies shift from chatbots that write code on request toward agents that act on their own.

Digital Trends noted that Super-Agent is a prototype, not proof that DeepSeek has overtaken established rivals. More competition could eventually lead to more capable and affordable coding tools for developers.

DeepSeek has raised about 100 billion yuan (USD 15 billion) in its latest funding round, among China’s largest, ahead of a planned IPO.

“Take as little human attention as possible, and give as much value as possible,” DeepSeek said of the agent’s aim, in a user manual on GitHub.
