LAT Aerospace, an airmobility startup founded in January 2025 by Zomato’s Deepinder Goyal and Surobhi Dash, has acquired Sharang Shakti, a defense robotics company. Financial details of the deal have not been officially disclosed.
“This is our first move toward building indigenous defence capabilities alongside our long-term mission of developing next-generation civil aviation platforms from India. Civil aviation and defence are often viewed as separate sectors. But the core technology stack is shared across autonomy, perception, sensing, navigation, guidance, and control systems,” said Deepinder Goyal in a post.
“By bringing Sharang Shakti into LAT, we are building these capabilities in-house, from first princip LAT Aerospace is an airmobility startup, and is currently developing an STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft for short runways and high-frequency operations. According to the company website, LAT Aerospace is also trying to achieve efficiency by “combining batteries that deliver take-off power for short runways with efficient engines for range and endurance. The result: lower fuel burn, fewer emissions, and reliable regional performance.”
Gurgaon-based Sharang Shakti was founded in 2023 by Rishabh Choudhary, Jitendra Singh, and Chirag Singla. The company says it is building an air defence system, similar to Israel’s Iron Dome, to tackle the threat of small drones.
“On the product side, we are currently developing low C-SWaP radars for micro-drone detection and hard-kill interceptors capable of physically neutralising rogue drones. At the core, we are building deep technical expertise in Control Systems, Computer Vision, and RF System Design to deliver autonomous, mission-ready defense technologies for modern combat scenarios,” according to Sharang Shakti.
The announcement comes nearly a month after Goyal announced that he had stepped down as Eternal Group CEO, and would serve on the company’s board. Goyal is succeeded by Albinder Dhindsa as the group CEO.
According to reports, Goyal has invested nearly USD 20 million in the LAT Aerospace. Another USD 50 million of investment is expected in the firm. Having said that Goyal is also an investor in a slew of startups like healthtech startup Ultrahuman. His portfolio includes names like Shiprocket, Bira 91, and Terra.do, among others.
