Actor Varun Dhawan has invested in Better Nutrition, India’s first biofortified staples brand, and joined the company as a brand ambassador alongside existing ambassador PV Sindhu. His association with the company began on his own farm, which he started learning about after acquiring agricultural land, and will now be developed as a biofortified farm with Better Nutrition.
Better Nutrition sells atta, dal, rice and millets that are naturally enriched with up to 2X more iron, zinc and other essential micronutrients. The company uses biofortified seeds, soil science and farm-level testing to grow crops with higher nutrient levels and uses X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology to measure and validate nutrient levels at the source. Its products are available on leading quick-commerce platforms, e-commerce and retail platforms, and on its website. Rather than asking consumers to change what they eat, the brand aims to improve the nutritional value of staples already on their plates.
Following Dhawan’s videos and the announcement of his biofortified farm, Better Nutrition has received enquiries from consumers asking whether their own farms can be converted. The company has opened applications for its Biofortified Farm programme on its website, where farm owners can submit details to have their farms evaluated. The programme will help the company identify farms where its seed, soil and testing capabilities can be deployed, building a growing network of farms exploring biofortification.
Better Nutrition was founded by Prateek Rastogi and Aishwarya Bhatnagar as a seed-to-shelf biofortified food company, connecting seeds, soil, farmers, testing, crop validation, processing and consumer food.
“We’re working together to make my farm biofortified. And yeah, Better Nutrition is my brand now too. I really like the mission behind it, and I want to be part of that journey,” said Varun Dhawan, Actor and Investor, Better Nutrition.
“Varun understood that very quickly. His decision to invest in the company and turn his own farm into a biofortified farm show how deeply he connects with the mission,” said Prateek Rastogi, Co-Founder and CEO, Better Nutrition.
