Dixon Technologies (India) has signed a definitive joint venture agreement with Taiwan-based Gemtek Technology to manufacture and supply optical transceivers and bidirectional optical subassembly (BOSA) modules in India.
The venture will operate through Dixon Electroconnect Private Limited, currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Dixon, which will be restructured into a 60:40 JV, with Dixon holding 60% and Gemtek 40% after fresh share subscriptions based on valuation reports. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions.
The JV will make Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceivers, BOSA products and other telecom products agreed by both companies, used in telecom and networking equipment. Gemtek will bring its expertise in optical modules and telecom infrastructure, while Dixon contributes its manufacturing capabilities. Dixon will retain operational control and can appoint three directors to the JV’s board, while Gemtek can appoint two. Production is scheduled to commence by Q4 FY27.
The move marks a shift for Dixon, historically known for consumer electronics manufacturing, toward higher-value networking components. The JV aims to capture rising demand for high-speed data transmission equipment driven by AI, cloud computing and hyperscale data centres, and to create a local supply chain for components India currently relies on imports for. Management had flagged the Gemtek JV at Dixon’s 33rd AGM in September 2026.
