Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has invested in AI-driven storytelling platform Kuku and joined its microdrama app, Kuku TV, as brand ambassador, marking a notable crossover between sports and digital entertainment.
Founded in 2018 by Lal Chand Bisu, Vinod Kumar Meena, and Vikas Goyal, Kuku operates a portfolio of apps including Kuku TV for short-form video dramas, Kuku FM for audio content, and Guru for edutainment. The company reports over 350 million installs across its platforms, offering more than 20,000 titles in multiple Indian languages and genres.
Dhoni said, “I chose to invest in Kuku, and also come on board as the ambassador for Kuku TV, because the platform really stood out to me. It has built a differentiated entertainment experience for audiences across India.” He added that he relates to the founders’ journey, noting, “I connect strongly with the founders, who come from small towns like mine and have built something of this scale.”
The company has increasingly focused on microdramas, a format that delivers short, high-impact stories in just a few minutes. Kuku TV alone has crossed 180 million downloads and continues to expand its content library, which includes over 150,000 episodes across seven languages. Several shows on the platform have recorded more than 100 million views.
CEO Lal Chand Bisu said, “MS Dhoni is known for backing bold decisions that others might hesitate to take. At Kuku, we are also taking bold bets.” Co-founder and COO Vinod Kumar Meena highlighted Dhoni’s widespread appeal, stating, “Our beloved Thala is one of the rare personalities with truly nationwide appeal.”
The company has also launched a campaign titled #DhoniWatchesKukuTV, built around a brand film that highlights short-form storytelling. Meanwhile, Kuku continues to invest in AI-powered content formats, including mythological fiction and futuristic narratives.
