According to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, global smartphone shipments increased just one per cent year-over-year (YoY) to 295.2 million units in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25).

Currently, according to the minister, 95 per cent of rural areas in India have access to 4 G. India now has 1.2 billion mobile subscribers, being the second largest network in the world, with a billion people having access to broadband connectivity. The country also boasts the largest rural connectivity with 'Bharatnet', which covers close to 2.2 lakh villages.

With the launch of Dimensity 8450 chipset, it plans to bring the features of flagship smartphones to those of premium smartphones

The country needs to scale up local manufacturing, especially by India-based contract manufacturers
