Growing parental demand meets investor caution as early-age edtech ventures navigate funding gaps, screen-time concerns, and scalability hurdles

Reports suggest that India's edtech market, valued at approximately USD 7.5 billion in 2024, is projected to grow steadily to around USD 25–30 billion by 2030.

According to people familiar with the matter, Vedantu is exploring the possibility of raising an additional USD 20 to 25 million over the next five to six months.

With the new funds, Arivihan plans to deepen its focus on Class 12 students preparing for state boards, CBSE, and NEET examinations, particularly from tier II and tier III cities.

The California and Gurugram-based startup will use the capital to strengthen its AI models, grow its team, and scale its flagship tutoring platforms—PadhAI for UPSC aspirants and EverTutor for GRE preparation—across global and Indian markets.

The fresh capital will enable Leap to scale its operations, launch new products, and further enhance its AI-driven solutions for study-abroad aspirants.

The raised funds will support Kreedo's working capital needs and drive its expansion, enhancing its ability to deliver innovative early education solutions.

"Technology shifts have created headwinds for our industry and Chegg's business specifically. Recent advancements in the AI search experience and the adoption of free and paid generative AI services by students have resulted in challenges for Chegg," said Nathan Schultz, chief executive officer and president, Chegg in the 2024 third-quarter earnings call

The company plans to deploy the raised funds to expand globally, invest in AI technology, grow its business in India and APAC, and explore acquisitions and investment opportunities to support its growth strategy.

Upgrad's founder and chairman, Ronnie Screwvala, will now take a more hands-on role in the company.

In August, the edtech startup secured US$500,000 in a series B funding round. The latest round will take the total funding to US$13,250,000.

Online courses and professional upskilling programs however seem to keep the sector still in the game, taking advantage of the shortcomings of the offline teaching methods.
