Mobility platform Rapido has launched its standalone food delivery service, Ownly, across Bengaluru, introducing it as India’s first zero-commission, price-honest food delivery platform.
The rollout marks the company’s entry into the competitive online food delivery market with a model designed to reduce extra charges for restaurants and consumers.
The company said Ownly will not charge commissions from restaurants, unlike many existing platforms. Instead, customers will pay only for the food they order and a delivery fee intended to cover logistics costs. According to Rapido, this structure aims to help restaurants maintain consistent menu prices without inflating rates or relying heavily on discount promotions.
Food delivery has become central to urban life in India, fuelled by smartphones and convenience. However, concerns about hidden fees, higher menu prices and complex discounts persist. Rapido says Ownly will follow a “Food Promise”, charging only food prices and delivery fees.
Aravind Sanka, Founder of Rapido and Ownly, said, “Indian consumer habits are changing rapidly. Food ordering has become an integral part of everyday life across India, not just in metros but in tier II and tier III cities as well.”
He added that the company sees an opportunity to build a restaurant-focused platform. “We believe transparency, honesty and fairness are key drivers of long-term growth for the sector and hope Ownly enables more people to enjoy the convenience of ordering in,” Sanka said.
The Bengaluru launch follows a pilot phase conducted in neighbourhoods such as Koramangala, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout. Rapido said the pilot helped the company study customer behaviour and work closely with restaurant partners to understand industry challenges.
Ownly currently lists nearly 20,000 restaurants on its platform and plans to expand further by leveraging Rapido’s hyperlocal logistics network of delivery partners, referred to as “Captains”.
Founded in 2015, Rapido operates mobility services including bike taxis, auto-rickshaws and cab rides across more than 400 Indian cities, facilitating millions of rides daily.
