5 Things to Know About the New Executive Chairperson at Godrej Industries 

Pirojsha Godrej has taken over as Executive Chairperson of Godrej Industries and Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group.

Godrej Industries appointed Pirojsha Godrej as Whole-Time Director, designated Executive Chairperson, for a five-year term ending August 13, 2031, subject to shareholder approval. He will also take on the role of Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group, following the retirement of Nadir Godrej as Chairman and Managing Director. Here are five things to know about the move.

1. Succession plan months ago

Pirojsha was named Chairperson-Designate of both Godrej Industries and the Godrej Industries Group on April 13, 2026, with the board indicating then that he would take over the chairmanship from August 14. Godrej Industries also updated its list of key managerial personnel authorized to handle materiality and stock exchange disclosures from August 14, including CEO (Chemicals) Vishal Sharma, CFO Clement Pinto and Company Secretary Anupama Kamble.

2.  Man who built Godrej properties

Pirojsha led Godrej Properties through a phase of rapid growth, during which it emerged as India’s largest real estate developer by sales in FY21, a position it continues to hold. He also founded Godrej Capital and Godrej Ventures, and he currently serves as Chairperson of Godrej Properties, Godrej Capital and Godrej Ventures.

3. Strong growth in his leadership

The Group has achieved over 20% compounded annual growth in sales and net profits over the past five years, and a market capitalization exceeding USD 20 billion as of April 2026. Its companies also received top global rankings in their respective categories on the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices in 2025.

4. Other leadership changes

Burjis Godrej, son of Nadir, will serve as Chairperson of Godrej Agrovet and join the board of Godrej Industries as a non-executive director from August 14. Vishal Sharma, CEO of Godrej Chemicals, has been appointed Chairperson of Astec LifeSciences with immediate effect, while Arijit Mukherjee, currently COO of Astec, will be appointed Executive Director.

5. Early Career

Before building his career at Godrej, Pirojsha explored public service. He interned at the New York Senate office of Hillary Clinton and later worked as an additional private secretary to the Minister of State for External Affairs in New Delhi. He joined Godrej Properties in 2004 and, after completing his MBA from Columbia Business School, returned to the company in 2008.
