Viasat has announced the six finalists for the second annual Viasat: Space for Good India Challenge 2026, a STEM competition organised in partnership with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe). The grand finale will be held in New Delhi on October 27, 2026.
The finalists will present live to a panel of space industry leaders, government representatives and satellite technology experts after a multi-month evaluation. Their concepts include AI-powered orbital debris avoidance, satellite-enabled disaster warning networks, crop health monitoring from space and emergency communications platforms for natural disasters.
The total prize pool is INR 11,50,000, with INR 5,00,000 for first place, INR 3,75,000 for second and INR 2,75,000 for third. All finalists receive mentorship from Viasat industry experts. Students use satellite-enabled technologies and receive guidance from Viasat engineers.
India’s higher education system serves more than 43 million students, and the country’s space economy is projected to grow from about USD 8.4 billion today to nearly USD 44 billion over the coming decade.
“Viasat: Space for Good is built on a simple belief: connectivity becomes capability when it is placed in the hands of people who are determined to solve meaningful problems. These finalists are proving that the next generation of leaders in STEM and space innovation is already shaping India’s future today,” said Gautam Sharma, Managing Director, Viasat India.
