Japan’s Hirata Enters India, Partners with ATS India
Japan’s Hirata partners with ATS India as exclusive distributor for semiconductor automation equipment.

ATS India (Automated Tooling Systems India) has entered a strategic partnership with Japan’s Hirata Corporation to bring the company’s semiconductor automation and material-handling technologies to India. Under the agreement, ATS India will serve as Hirata’s exclusive distribution partner in the country.
The partnership will introduce Hirata’s portfolio of Equipment Front End Modules (EFEM), FOPLP load ports, PLP panel handling robots and wafer handling robots, designed for wafer and panel handling across semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging, including backend and OSAT operations. Hirata will initially focus on its standard product range, with plans to expand into customised, application-specific solutions as India’s semiconductor ecosystem develops.
The collaboration builds on an existing relationship between Hirata and ATS spanning more than a decade across sectors including automotive. It comes as India expands its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and prepares to host Semicon 2026, addressing a gap where domestic manufacturers have relied on cross-border supply chains for specialised equipment, resulting in longer lead times.
“The focus of this partnership is on building the local commercial, technical and service ecosystem that Indian manufacturers need,” said Kishen Kavikondala, CEO, ATS India.
