Cloudflare has acquired VoidZero, the company behind the popular JavaScript tool Vite, in a move aimed at simplifying application development as AI reshapes coding workflows.
The acquisition will bring VoidZero’s tools, including Vite, Vitest, Rolldown and Oxc, into Cloudflare’s platform. This integration is expected to enable faster and smoother deployment of applications from local systems to Cloudflare’s global network.
The development comes at a time when AI-driven coding is accelerating software creation. With developers increasingly relying on automated tools, the need for efficient deployment systems has grown. Vite has emerged as a widely used tool in this space, recording over 130 million weekly downloads.
Cloudflare co-founder and CEO Matthew Prince said, “AI is doing more of the typing — so everything around it has to keep up.” He added that the integration would provide developers “the fastest path from local code to our global network.”
VoidZero’s team, led by founder Evan You, will join Cloudflare’s Emerging Technology and Incubation unit. The team is expected to continue its work on open source projects while contributing to deeper integration with Cloudflare’s developer platform.
Evan You said, “Our mission has always been to remove complexity and performance bottlenecks in the modern web stack.” He added that the collaboration would help improve the developer experience while keeping the ecosystem open.
Cloudflare also announced a USD 1 million fund to support independent contributors working on the Vite ecosystem. The company said its core tools will remain open source and vendor-neutral.
The acquisition highlights a broader industry shift towards streamlining development processes as AI continues to transform how software is built and deployed.
