Micron to Scale Sanand Chip Output to Hundreds of Millions
Micron CEO says Sanand facility will scale from tens to hundreds of millions of chips by 2027.

Micron Technology plans to scale chip assembly and testing at its Sanand facility in Gujarat multifold next year, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said at SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi. “This year, we will assemble and test tens of millions of chips at Sanand. Next year, hundreds of millions of chips,” he said.
Mehrotra said the company has moved beyond the long-discussed “potential” of India’s semiconductor sector to “execution,” pointing to the commercial production of DRAM and NAND products at Sanand, which began in February. The facility is the first semiconductor assembly and test site established under the India Semiconductor Mission and takes advanced DRAM and NAND wafers produced elsewhere in Micron’s global network, converting them into finished memory and storage products.
The Sanand plant represents a combined investment of approximately $2.75 billion by Micron and its government partners. It already has enough capacity to meet the memory requirements of India’s entire laptop industry, and the company has delivered its first India-made memory modules to Dell Technologies for domestically manufactured laptops.
Micron designs memory chips in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, assembles them in Gujarat, and ships them to customers across every continent, Mehrotra said, adding that the company’s current production capacity already exceeds India’s memory requirements. Micron employs more than 7,000 people directly in India, and its engineering teams in Bengaluru and Hyderabad have contributed to more than 3,700 patents, innovations and technical disclosures.
