Uno Minda Limited’s board, at a meeting held in Gurugram on September 14, approved Detailed Project Reports for four manufacturing expansion and consolidation projects with a combined capital expenditure of approximately INR 1,415 crore. The board also approved raising up to INR 600 crore through non-convertible debentures and INR 500 crore through commercial papers to support the projects.
The largest project is a greenfield aluminium casting facility at Thally Road, Hosur, with an estimated capex of INR 510 crore. The company’s existing Hosur unit has reached its practical expansion limits; the new facility will raise casting capacity from about 13,000 MT to 30,000 MT at peak, adding 20,557 MT of annual capacity for engine, EV, powertrain, structural and general applications, along with two-wheeler alloy wheels. The project will be implemented in phases, with production beginning in Q4 FY28 and existing Hosur operations relocated to the new site by Q1 FY29.
At Kharkhoda, Haryana, the company will add 3.3 million units of annual two-wheeler alloy wheel capacity at a capex of INR 155 crore, including relocation of 2 million units of existing capacity from Supa, Maharashtra. Phase 1 is expected to begin production by Q4 FY28.
Uno Minda Kyoraku Limited, a subsidiary, will expand its Bengaluru moulding facility with a INR 80 crore capex, adding 1.38 million units of annual capacity to its existing 3.28 million units, which is running at 91.9% utilisation. Production is targeted for Q1 FY28.
Toyoda Gosei South India Private Limited, a subsidiary of associate company Toyoda Gosei Uno Minda India, will set up a facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, to manufacture interior and exterior automotive parts, airbags, hoses and body sealing parts, at a capex of INR 670 crore. The plant will add 1.5 lakh units of annual capacity to the existing 4.5 lakh units, running at about 90% utilisation, with production targeted for Q4 FY29.
All four projects will be funded through a mix of term loans and internal accruals.
“With a combined capital expenditure of INR 1,415 crore, these expansions represent a disciplined approach to capturing high-growth opportunities while strategically diversifying across product verticals and geographies,” said Sunil Bohra, Group CFO, Uno Minda.
