Ride-hailing company Uber is setting up its first data centre in India in partnership with the Adani Group, marking a significant step in expanding its technology and infrastructure presence in the country.
The development was announced by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi after his meeting with Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. Highlighting India’s growing role, Khosrowshahi said in a post on X, “India is fast emerging as a leading innovation hub for Uber,” adding that the new facility will enable the company to “test and deploy” technology at scale for its global operations.
The move reflects Uber’s increasing focus on India as a key growth market. Khosrowshahi is currently on a five-day visit to the country, during which he met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss Uber’s future investment plans. He also held discussions with former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
The partnership aligns with Adani Group’s broader push into digital infrastructure through AdaniConneX, its data centre venture, which has been expanding across several Indian cities, including a major campus in Visakhapatnam.
The development comes at a time when global technology companies are increasing investments in India’s cloud and AI ecosystem, supported by rising demand for local data infrastructure and a growing policy emphasis on digital sovereignty.
