TechnoSport has signed an MoU with the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) IIT Delhi to establish the TechnoSport Center for Research and Entrepreneurship in Sports Textile (T-CREST) at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus. TechnoSport will invest INR 4.5 crore over three years toward research, prototyping and capability building in sports textiles.
T-CREST will initially focus on endurance running, badminton, cricket, volleyball and soccer, examining how textile materials and garment design affect athletic performance, comfort and recovery. The research will consider the interaction between the athlete, sport, environment and garment, with athletes, coaches, textile scientists and sports-science specialists contributing to research and validation.
The partnership pairs TechnoSport’s experience in textiles, product development and manufacturing with IIT Delhi’s scientific and engineering capabilities. It comes as TechnoSport expands its manufacturing footprint, currently producing more than 1 lakh garments a day and expecting to manufacture around 35 million garments this year, having recorded about 40% year-on-year growth over the past four to five years. Beyond product research, the initiative is intended to support India’s broader sports-technology startup ecosystem, including talent development and entrepreneurship.
The MoU was signed in the presence of IIT Delhi Deputy Director Prof. Vivek V. Buwa, FITT Managing Director Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, AIC IIT Delhi CEO Alok Pandey, Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering Associate Professor Prof. Bipin Kumar, and TechnoSport CEO Puspen Maity.
“India has the scientific talent, manufacturing depth and sporting ambition to create world-class performance sportswear here,” said Sunil Jhunjhunwala, Co-Founder and Managing Director, TechnoSport.
