PV Sales Clock Record Number In May
Premium products and technologies tailored to India’s changing needs were primary factors driving growth for Tata Motors, M&M, and Hyundai India in the month of May.

Demand for passenger vehicles (PVs) soared to a new monthly high in May 2026. The strong performance reflects sustained customer demand across product portfolios and momentum in the Indian market driven by cutting-edge offerings, aspirational ownership, and relevant technologies.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) announced that in the Utility Vehicles segment, it sold 58,021 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 11 per cent year-on-year (YoY) and overall 59,573 vehicles, including exports. The domestic sales for commercial vehicles stood at 24,079, a growth of 19 per cent.
According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd.,“In May, we achieved SUV sales of 58,021 units, a growth of 11 per cent and total vehicle sales stood at 99,636, a 20 per cent YoY growth. The sustained demand across our portfolio continues, constrained by supply chain challenges due to manpower shortages at select suppliers.” Its overall auto sales for the month of May 2026 stood at 99,636 vehicles, a growth of 20 per cent including exports.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. sales in the domestic & international market for May 2026 stood at 59,790 units, compared to 42,040 units during May 2025. Tata Motors delivered robust double-digit growth in May 2026, with wholesales up 42 per cent and VAHAN registrations surging 50 per cent YoY. Monthly EV sales hit a new high of 10,517 accelerating Tata Motors’ lead in India’s electric mobility space.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported domestic sales of 47,837 units in May 2026, registering 9.1 per cent YoY growth. With exports of 13,300 units, total monthly sales stood at 61,137 units, marking 4.1 per cent YoY growth in May 2026.
“Hyundai Motor India has continued its strong momentum of the year into May as well, achieving domestic sales of 47,837 units with 9.1 per cent YoY growth and total sales of 61,137 units with 4.1 per cent YoY growth. In the first two months (April and May) of FY27, HMIL witnessed domestic sales rise by 13 per cent to 99,739 units, compared to 88,235 units in the same period of FY26,” said Tarun Garg, MD & CEO – HMIL.
Kia India announced its highest-ever May sales since inception, with wholesale volumes of 27,586 units, recording a 23.6 per cent YoY growth over 22,315 units sold in May 2025.
Continuing its strong growth trajectory in 2026, Kia India has recorded year-to-date (YTD) sales of 139,197 units, compared to 121,514 units during the same period in 2025, reflecting a 14.6 per cent growth over the same period last year, driven by its recent initiatives like our Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program, an initiative to make electric mobility more accessible and practical for customers.
Atul Sood, senior vice-president, sales & marketing, Kia India said, “Our highest-ever May sales performance reflects the strong alignment of our product portfolio with evolving customer preferences across segments.
