Paytm is reportedly planning to hire more than 4,000 employees over the next nine months as the company looks to deepen AI integration into its services.

The company has already hired over 800 employees and is in the process of recruiting another 4,000. Moreover, the company also plans to let go of 1% of its workforce, which is nearly 400 employees, based on performance appraisals.

“Over the last two months, we have added more than 800 people and are in the process of recruiting a further 4,000,” the company said in a statement.

It is worth highlighting that Paytm has been making efforts to integrate AI into its offerings for a while. AI also headlined the company’s recent earnings report.

In the earnings report, the company said that its investments in AI-led product innovation are reflecting in market share gains and monetization. Momentum was seen in payments, loan distribution, and wealth, with a full-year benefit expected in FY 2027. Regarding the continued use of AI across the organisation and AI-led operating leverage, it said: revenue and contribution profit are expected to grow meaningfully faster than indirect expenses led by AI applications across our businesses, supporting further EBITDA margin expansion.

Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma had also talked at length about integrating AI. He said that the company was pushing AI into its core marketing services.

“…Now we are asking them to do it through agents. So we believe that merchants will be able to do it easier because agents will do the necessary job of taking care of workflow versus, let’s say we, giving them certain marketing products. So that is the kind of approach that we are taking. So the product line items still will remain the same, and it will lead to better penetration and usage because we are using AI or allowing merchants, customers to use AI.”

He also added that the company believes that there will be a significant amount of opportunity for it to create agents as it aims to make the lives of customers and merchants easier.

Paytm’s AI push follows Sharma’s 2024 letter to shareholders wherein he had talked about leveraging advanced technologies, including AI.

“Expectedly this requires sophisticated capabilities in AI and other technologies. I am very proud of our Advanced AI capabilities in use and how we are expanding. We are building an India scale AI system which will help various financial institutes in capturing possible risks and frauds, while also protecting them from new kinds of risks due to advancement in AI,” he had said.

Paytm reported a profit of INR 183 crore in the Q4 FY26, while revenue from operations rose over 18% YoY to INR 2,264 crore from INR 1,912 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
