OpenMetal has acquired Economize, a cloud cost management platform for engineering, finance and FinOps teams, giving customers a single provider for understanding cloud spend and optimizing infrastructure. The acquisition also launches OpenMetal Labs, a new offering building custom infrastructure and cost solutions for businesses with unique challenges.
The combination addresses a gap for infrastructure-heavy businesses running a mix of public cloud and private infrastructure, with AI and GPU spend taking a growing share of budgets. Economize gives teams visibility into where that spending goes, while OpenMetal provides private infrastructure for workloads better suited to it. Customers moving to private infrastructure get an easier transition, while hybrid customers receive ongoing monitoring and optimization across both environments.
Labs joins OpenMetal’s existing offerings of Hosted Private Cloud, Bare Metal Dedicated Servers, GPU Servers and Clusters, and Ceph Storage Clusters, becoming the company’s fifth product line. The team consults directly with companies on complex infrastructure and cost challenges that standard products don’t address, spanning large-scale OpenStack and Ceph engineering to real-time cloud cost anomaly detection.
“Companies running infrastructure-heavy businesses have needed a FinOps tool and an infrastructure vendor that understands their cost structure, and rarely got both from the same place. Bringing Economize and OpenMetal together closes that gap because it’s a full suite from one directly accountable provider,” said Todd Robinson, Co-Founder and President, OpenMetal.
