ixigo, an AI-powered travel platform, has unveiled a redesigned AI-native version of its app, introducing a more conversational and personalised approach to travel planning and booking.
The company said the new platform has been rebuilt from the ground up with AI integrated across the entire user experience.
At the centre of the update is TARA, ixigo’s multimodal AI assistant, which has been reimagined as the core interface of the app. TARA enables users to plan, book, and manage travel through natural interactions using voice, text, or taps. Unlike traditional chat-based tools, the assistant is deeply embedded into the app and can understand complex, intent-driven queries. Users can interact in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, with support for additional languages expected.
TARA is also designed to be context-aware, offering relevant suggestions based on a user’s stage in the travel journey and past behaviour.
ixigo has also introduced a new feature called Trip Mode, aimed at simplifying the post-booking experience. The feature consolidates key travel information such as boarding passes, gate details, baggage updates, and real-time alerts into one place. It also provides timely recommendations, including when to leave for the airport based on live traffic conditions.
In addition, the platform has rolled out agentic travel flows, where AI agents perform tasks in the background. These include sending boarding passes via messaging platforms, updating travel details in real time, tracking flight schedules, and assisting with cancellations and refunds. The system also coordinates with hotels to help streamline check-ins.
Many of these features are opt-in and designed to keep users in control. Founded in 2007 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, ixigo claims to serve over 54 crore annual active users, offering services across trains, flights, buses, and hotels.
