Firstwork, a San Francisco-based HR tech startup founded by former Deel executives Vardhan Kapoor and Shubham Choudhary, has raised USD 15 million (over INR 142 crore) in a Series A round led by Earlybird Venture Capital. Legion VC and Deel Ventures participated, along with existing investors Gradient and Y Combinator. Total funding since its 2024 launch is USD 20 million.

The funds will go toward expanding teams across applied AI, AI research, engineering and go-to-market, deepening its presence in the US and Europe, and extending its AI agents to more workforce operations. About 80% of its workforce works from Bengaluru.

More than 1.5 lakh frontline workers start work through the platform each month, and the company claims it cuts time spent on each new hire by up to 90%. Clients include Deel, Job&Talent, Relay, Wonolo and BGSF. India’s HR technology market is projected to double from USD 1.12 billion in 2024 to USD 2.3 billion by 2033. Bengaluru-based Hunar.AI, which raised INR 40 crore this week, and Hyderabad-based TurboHire are among Indian startups in the space.
