The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), a bioscience research and innovation hub under the Department of Biotechnology, has been selected as one of five Focused Research Organisations (FROs) under the Research, Development and Innovation Fund (RDIF), with a declared allocation of INR 500 crore (over USD 51 million). It is the only dedicated biotech organization among the 19 Second Level Fund Managers announced by the government.
C-CAMP will work with private partners and investors to build a consortium of more than INR 1,000 crore to back deeptech life science startups in healthcare, agriculture, food security and environmental sustainability. The funds are aimed at startups at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 and above, with the goal of drawing more private capital into the deeptech ecosystem.
The RDIF was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 1, 2025, and has so far supported 22 startups through direct project funding, two of which are C-CAMP portfolio companies, Eyestem Research and Peptris Technologies. The fund’s total size is INR 1 lakh crore.
“Beyond utilising the funds to support TRL 4 startups, C-CAMP is also keen on catalysing more private fund infusion into the deep-tech ecosystem in keeping with the RDI’s defining objectives,” said Taslimarif Saiyed, Director-CEO, C-CAMP.
