Honeywell Report Flags OT Cybersecurity Gaps
Honeywell report finds major OT cybersecurity visibility gaps despite 88% claiming mature security programs.

Honeywell Technologies has released its 2026 Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Benchmark Report, revealing a disconnect between perceived and actual cybersecurity readiness across critical infrastructure. Based on a survey of over 600 global industrial cybersecurity leaders, 88% described their OT cybersecurity programs as mature, while only 21% reported having a complete inventory of their OT assets.
Organizations experienced an average of 16.2 hours of downtime from their most significant cybersecurity incidents, with losses of up to $500,000 per hour. While 99% of respondents expect AI to affect OT security within two to three years, only 23% currently use autonomous or agentic operations for threat detection. Just 33% of organizations have fully integrated OT into a centralized security operations center, and only 20% continuously monitor connected IoT devices such as cameras and sensors.
By sector, 91% of energy and utilities respondents and 87% of maritime respondents reported experiencing a significant OT cybersecurity incident in the past 12 months, compared to 54% in oil and gas. In healthcare, only 19% of respondents said facility and building systems are fully integrated into cybersecurity monitoring. The report found that organizations with stronger visibility into their OT environments are four times better positioned to identify threats and restore operations quickly.
“As cyber threats increasingly impact physical operations, resilience depends on extending cybersecurity across every connected system that supports uptime and business continuity. Organizations can no longer afford to have this visibility gap,” said Jim Masso, President and CEO, Honeywell Technologies Process Automation.
