Hyundai Motor Group has launched the Hyundai CoE Mobility Innovation Ideathon and Research Synergy Forum, two industry-academia collaboration programmes under the Hyundai Centre of Excellence (Hyundai CoE). The initiatives bring together students, professors and researchers from Hyundai CoE’s seven member universities: IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, VNIT Nagpur and Tezpur University.
Established in 2025, Hyundai CoE serves as the group’s collaborative research platform with Indian academic institutions, aimed at enhancing India-localized mobility R&D. The Ideathon will run from September through early December 2026, inviting students to develop concepts under the theme “Enhanced In-Vehicle Experience,” across four categories: India-Smart Interaction, AI-Powered & Digital In-Vehicle Experience, Next-Generation In-Vehicle Interface, and Smart Value Innovation.
Students will submit ideas through a dedicated microsite, with each university conducting preliminary screening. Preliminary winners will be announced on October 30, followed by an offline semi-final evaluation. Seven finalist teams will present in the final round on December 16, where a Hyundai Motor Group jury will select the grand prize winner. The group will award approximately INR 10 lakh in prize money across the seven finalist teams.
Alongside the student competition, Hyundai CoE will host the Research Synergy Forum, a faculty-focused exchange programme where Hyundai researchers and professors from member universities will share research outcomes and discuss collaboration in batteries, electrification and future mobility.
“The Mobility Innovation Ideathon will be an important opportunity to discover creative ideas from students at leading universities in India and gain new insights into the Indian mobility market and customers,” said Bijaya Ketan Panigrahi, Professor of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, and Hyundai CoE Co-Chair.
