L’Oréal has named its second cohort of 13 companies from eight countries for its flagship sustainable innovation programme, L’AcceleratOR, including two startups from India. Backed by a €100 million fund, the programme identifies, pilots and scales technologies addressing climate, nature and circularity challenges.

Representing India in the new cohort are Without, a climate-tech company recycling hard-to-recycle flexible packaging into durable materials, and Nexus (Felis Leo Widgets), which develops circular technology to produce energy-storage batteries using agricultural waste. Without was previously recognized in L’Oréal’s SAPMENA Big Bang Beauty Tech Innovation Program.

The 13 partners will enter an acceleration phase led by the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, focused on pilot readiness, with access to L’Oréal’s global resources to launch 6-to-9-month pilot projects that could be scaled across the group’s international operations. The second cohort features an expanded geographical footprint and the programme’s first-ever water-technology selection. L’Oréal also launched a docuseries, Entering L’AcceleratOR, chronicling the journey of three startups from its inaugural cohort.

The remaining 11 companies span next-generation packaging and materials, innovative ingredients, advanced industrial processes and data intelligence, including Arda Biomaterials (UK), Bormioli Luigi (Italy), Newlight Technologies (USA), Bioweg (Germany), MacroCycle (USA) and Waterplan (USA).

“India’s startup ecosystem is now the third largest in the world, and what continues to impress me is how fearlessly Indian entrepreneurs tackle complex, structural challenges, from agricultural residue to flexible packaging,” said Jacques Lebel, Managing Director, L’Oréal India.
