Origin, a physical AI company founded in early 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar. Building general-purpose robots for interior construction, has emerged from stealth with USD 20 million in total funding co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures. Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21 also participated, along with angel investors from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.
The funds will go toward deploying and building out the fleet of OG-1, Origin’s flagship robot, and supporting pilots with customers in the US and Europe, including two of the largest US drywall finishing contractors, with more pilots planned in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia. The company also plans to extend the platform to trades such as taping, drywall installation, drilling and conduit installation. It is targeting 150 robots deployed by the end of 2027.
Origin says the robots work at three times human speed with human-level quality. OG-1 is being deployed in commercial spaces, multi-family apartments, data centres, hotels and warehouses.
A 2026 survey found worker shortages delayed projects for 42% of responding US construction firms. Zacua’s Construction Robotics Report 2026 found the sector drew USD 1.36 billion in venture funding in the first three quarters of 2025, up 125% from USD 612 million in all of 2024, while robots remain under 0.03% of global construction spend.
“Every customer we work with has more demand and project backlogs than their teams can deliver. Over the last century, construction has only mechanized or automated heavy exterior work. But much of the skilled work inside the building, which accounts for more than 65% of the construction timelines, is still done by hand,” said Yogesh Ghaturle, Co-founder and CEO, Origin.
“Too many construction robots perform well in a lab and fail within a week on a live job site. Origin built for the job site from the start,” said Vivin Hegde, Founding Partner, Zacua Ventures.
